About MTL Coils

MTL coils, short for mouth-to-lung coils, are an essential component of MTL vaping. Unlike sub-ohm coils that are designed for big cloud production, MTL coils help to create tighter draws and more discreet vapour. These coils have resistances of 1.0ohm or higher, and are available in various materials, including kanthal, stainless steel, nickel, and titanium. There is an emphasis on creating great flavour with MTL vape coils, with an added focus on creating a more cigarette-like feel as you inhale. This is why these vape coils are often preferred by those who have just made the transition from smoking to vaping.

Mouth To Lung Coils FAQs

MTL stands for mouth-to-lung, which is a style of vaping often favoured by ex-smokers. MTL vaping refers to a style of inhaling where vapour is drawn into the mouth before being inhaled into the lungs. This technique mimics the sensation of smoking a traditional cigarette, making it popular among transitioning smokers and vapers who prefer a more restricted draw and higher nicotine delivery. On the other hand, Direct-to-Lung (DTL) vaping involves inhaling directly into the lungs without holding it in the mouth first. DTL vaping is often associated with sub-ohm devices and is known for producing larger clouds of vapour.

It's not enough to just use a high resistance coil to achieve a MTL experience. It is equally important to use the right type of e-liquid too, as different e-liquids have varying ratios of VG and PG which then affects your overall vaping experience. We recommend using either a nic salt or 50/50 freebase e-liquid to ensure the best experience possible.

All vape coils, regardless of whether they're designed for mouth-to-lung or sub-ohm vaping, have a resistance. You'll see the resistance measured in 'ohms', and the lower the ohm, the lower resistance which then leads to bigger vapour clouds. The higher the number, the greater the resistance. Head on over to our guide on ohms law for a full breakdown.

The lifespan of an MTL coil depends on various factors, including usage frequency, e-liquid composition, and power settings. On average, MTL coils can last anywhere from one to three weeks before needing replacement. However, it's important to monitor your coil's performance regularly and replace it when you notice a decline in flavour or vapour production.

No, MTL vape coils are specifically designed for MTL tanks or pods and should only be used with these devices. They have a higher resistance and are not suitable for use with sub-ohm tanks, which require coils with lower resistance levels. Using MTL coils in sub-ohm tanks can result in inadequate vapour production and unsatisfactory performance.

The wattage range for MTL coils varies depending on the specific coil and device you are using. It's important to check the recommended wattage range provided by the manufacturer and adjust your device settings accordingly. Typically, it is best to use your MTL device between a range of 8 to 20 watts.

Once the coil is primed, you can start vaping and you don't need to prime it again.

E-liquids with a VG content of over 60% will be too thick and gloopy for MTL coils to handle. If you attempt to use a high VG vape juice, it will not be able to saturate properly and you can experience some pretty nasty dry hits!
